First Friends Day School's purpose is to provide a secure and nurturing environment that fosters independence, curiosity and the development of age appropriate skills in a Christian atmosphere. We promote a positive self-image, a sense of identity and encourage cooperative play in a positive atmosphere to stimulate the development of the whole child. Curriculum - Our curriculum is accomplished through play-based activities in various learning centers (reading, art, dramatic play, games, math, blocks, puzzles, etc.) There is also a different theme focus each week. Each class has a daily routine which includes a balance of large and small group activities, learning centers, music, outdoor plays, snack and lunch time. Our goal is to let each child achieve his/her potential at his/her pace. Registration Each spring (usually in February or March), registration is held for the upcoming summer and school year. Children presently enrolled at First Friends will have the first opportunity to register. Registration will then be open to members of FUMC, and then to the community. Enrollment is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis each day of registration. The enrollment fee is non-refundable and at least ½ must be paid at registration to reserve a place for your child. The entire balance of the enrollment fee must be paid and all registration forms must be completed and received in the office no later than August 5th before the child is admitted to the program. Calendar First Friends follows the P.I.S.D. calendar with few exceptions. Classes will begin two weeks after Pasadena schools, and ends the week before. Our school will be closed for two additional days for teachers to attend workshops. We will release at 11:00 A.M. on early release days. Religion - First Friends is a Weekday Ministry of First United Methodist Church Pasadena and outreach to the community. All programs are open to all children regardless of race, nationality or creed. The children will say prayers before snack and lunch. Chapel time will be scheduled twice a month for 10-20 minutes. Lunches and Snacks Each child must bring lunch daily. Lunch Out is available on Thursdays and Fridays for $3.00. Individual snacks need to be provided daily as well. Age and Class Size Children are enrolled in classes by age. We follow the P.I.S.D. guideline of a childs age as of September 1st of the school year for which the child is being registered. Age groups range from infants through kindergarten. Infant classes are 3 months through 12 months. Toddler classes are 12 months through 24 months. Preschool classes are offered for children who are 2, 3, or 4 by September1st. Five year olds may enroll in the Kindergarten Skills program. This class is also available for those children who will turn 5-years old between September 1st and December 1st of the same year. Staff-Child Ratios are: 3 12 months
1:4 Fees Children are registered on a yearly basis. The tuition amount stays the same each month regardless of the amount of days attended. Enrollment fees are assessed on 12 month, 9 month and summer programs. Tuition is a yearly fee divided into 9 equal payments, or a weekly payment schedule can be set up. Extended Care Morning Care is from 7am 9am. Afternoon Care is from 1pm 6pm. Fees are based on the number of days enrolled. Drop-ins have a daily rate and requests should be made in advance to insure availability. Anyone not enrolled in the extended care programs, but wanting to participate in the Holiday Care will pay a daily rate. Spaces for these days must be reserved at least one week in advance.
